Steps to School featured on ‘Today with Sean O’Rourke’

Better Finglas were delighted to have our Steps to School programme featured on the ‘Today with Sean O’Rourke’ show on RTE Radio One Thursday 1st September.

The show’s reporter met with a local Finglas family to talk about how the Steps to School programme has supported their youngest member, Grace, in her move from preschool to primary school.

Five year old Grace talked about about starting school, ‘I think I’m going to be happy’ she said.  Grace’s nine year old sister Lucy and their mum Shelly explained that starting school was a difficult time at first for Lucy but already the experience is much more positive for Grace thanks to the Steps to School pilot programme and all the support she has received in her preschool.

Our Early Years Mentor, Sharon Byrne, gave an overview of the Steps to School programme which included workshops for early years practitioners, a transition form which supports information sharing between preschools and primary schools, and a transition pack for families which they receive from the primary school.
