Better Finglas hosted two ‘Little Lámh’ workshops on 18th October which were attended by 30 local early years professionals.
Little Lámh was developed as an introduction to using Lámh signs and for those who only require a small number of signs.
We organised Little Lámh training to support early years professionals in Finglas who may be working with young children that use Lámh or children with communication needs.
Training was delivered by Ciara Ní Raghallaigh, Senior Speech & Language Therapist based in Scoil Chiaráin.
Why Use Lámh?
- If children’s speech is unclear or limited, the Lámh user may be more easily understood when they use signs. This encourages many to try new words and say more. Use of Lámh signs may reduce frustration.
- It encourages eye contact and attention to movement; skills that are important for speech development.
- With Lámh, speech is always used with signs and only key words in a sentence are signed.
